The Nanophotometer (IMPLEN) is a universal UV/VIS spectrophotometer designed for small volumes. It is capable of measuring samples with volumes from 0.3 µl using a special cuvette and for conventional cuvettes with an optical path of 10 mm. The instrument allows the measurement of DNA, RNA, oligonucleotide, protein and cell optical density concentrations without dilution. In addition to absorbance measurements, reaction kinetics can also be measured, or the entire spectrum can be measured in the range 200–950 nm. The instrument includes the NanoPhotometer Software Package for data transfer to a computer. The NanoPhotometer is a stand-alone unit that does not require computer control.

The CFX96 Real-Time PCR (Bio-Rad) is a 6-channel system that combines advanced optical technology with precise temperature control for sensitive and reliable detection. The instrument includes a convenient touch screen LCD monitor that allows full control of the instrument. This cycler allows for the monitoring of the expression of up to 5 target genes.

The Eppendorf Mastercycler ep gradient (Eppendorf AG) is a 96-well thermal cycler. Peltier elements are employed to control the temperature of the silver-coated block, with the result that heating and cooling can be achieved with great rapidity. The instrument is equipped with intuitive and graphical programming, a heated lid with integrated ESP technology. The gradient-heated block allows a freely programmable temperature gradient with 12 rows. The gradient on this instrument can be set from 1 to 24 degrees Celsius, allowing for the straightforward optimisation of the individual components of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reaction.
